Three arrested in Merseyside gangmaster raid

Three suspected unlicensed gangmasters have been arrested during raids on Merseyside.

Police entered two buildings in Oxford Avenue, Bootle, on Tuesday over suspicions that firearms were being kept on the premises.

Although no guns were found, a large amount of cash was recovered. Documents and computers were also seized.

Two men, aged 41 and 55, and a 41-year-old woman - all Czech nationals - were taken into custody.

All three were held under Section 12 of the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004, suspected of operating without a licence.

Both 41-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of money-laundering.

Officers from Merseyside Police, the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) and Merseyside Human Trafficking Team were all involved in the operation.

Investigations are continuing.
