Firefighters tackled a blaze at a waste management centre on Merseyside.

The fire started at the Veolia plant on Bankhall Lane in Bootle just before 0400 BST.

About 120 tonnes of household rubbish are thought to have gone up in flames inside the building, but no-one was injured.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said Bankhall Lane was closed between Bankhall Street and Juniper Street while firefighters were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
