A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the shooting of a woman at a hotel in Stockport.

The 46-year-old victim suffered serious abdominal wounds in the attack early on Tuesday morning at the Britannia Hotel on Dialstone Lane in Offerton.

She was taken to hospital where she remains in a "serious but stable" condition, police said.

The 47-year-old man was arrested in Leeds on Thursday and is being held in police custody for questioning.

Ch Supt Wayne Miller said officers "believe this was an isolated incident... but our investigation continues as we follow a number of lines of inquiry".

"I would urge anyone who may have been staying at the hotel or was in the area at the time to contact us," he added.
