Rochdale alleyway stabbing: Man charged with murder

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 33-year-old who was found stabbed in an alleyway.

The body of Matthew McKenzie was found by a passer-by near Promenade Street in Heywood, Rochdale, at about 23:25 GMT on 12 January.

A post-mortem examination found he died as a result of a stab wound to his chest.

James Hurst, 28, of Littlemoor Lane, Oldham, is due to appear at Bury Magistrates' Court.

Another man, 33, who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed until 21 March pending further enquiries.
