Murder probe after man found on Hulme street with head injury dies

Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man who was found with a serious head injury on a street in Manchester.

Police found Desmond O'Reilly, 53, after responding to a call for help from St Georges Avenue in Hulme at 22:50 GMT on Monday.

He died in hospital in Tuesday with a head injury confirmed as the cause of death by a post-mortem examination.

Detectives believe he was attacked prior to being found by a passer-by.

Supt Dave Pester said it was vital police established "how he came by the injury that led to his death" and asked anyone with information about what had happened to get in touch.
