A "cowardly bully" who sexually abused three young girls over 18 years has been jailed.

Kevin Donlon carried out the attacks between 1983 and 2001, including when his victims were as young as seven.

One of the girls was made to perform sex acts on him in return for money or cigarettes, police said.

The 49-year-old, of Scott Lane, Salford, was jailed for 15 years after being convicted of a number of sex offences at Manchester Crown Court.

His offences included three counts of attempted rape, six counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency with a child.

Police said his offending was discovered after one of his victims eventually came forward.

Det Con Victoria Burgess said: "Donlon is a cowardly bully who abused young vulnerable girls for his own perverse gratification.

"He showed no remorse for his actions."

Donlon was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
