A group of Jewish people celebrating the Jewish New Year were allegedly threatened by a man wielding an axe, police have said.

Officers were called to Bury Old Road in Greater Manchester, home to a large Orthodox Jewish community, who were celebrating Rosh Hashanah on Monday.

A man, aged 45, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated offence and possessing an offensive weapon.

He has been bailed until 31 October.
