A 63-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a five-day-old girl at a supermarket in Manchester.

David Hardy, of Longfield Road, Baguley, was bailed to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on 4 October.

Officers were called to the Tesco store on Altrincham Road in Baguley at about 18:45 BST on Monday, following reports a baby was punched.

The baby girl was taken to hospital as a precaution and has been discharged.
