Salford murder arrest after man's body was found
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a student halls of residence in Salford.
The 30-year-old was found with multiple stab wounds inside a flat in Cannon Street on Monday.
A man had approached a patrol officer in Manchester at about 13:00 GMT and claimed he had killed a man and his body was in a flat, police said.
A 36-year-old remains in police custody for questioning.
The man is yet to be formally identified and a post mortem examination will take place later.
Supt Mark Kenny from Greater Manchester Police said: "I can't speculate on the motive for this crime, but at this early stage there is nothing to suggest there is a threat to the wider student population. "
Professor Helen Marshall, vice-chancellor of the University of Salford, said the man's death had "come as a huge shock".
"We are providing support for students and staff and have dedicated phone lines and staff available to help anyone affected by this tragic event."
