A woman died when she was hit by a car after falling in the road in Greater Manchester, police have said.

The woman, who has not been named, fell backwards while crossing Bow Street in Bolton at about 22:00 GMT on Sunday.

Three vehicles managed to avoid her but she was hit by the driver of a fourth vehicle. The car drove to Back Bridge Street, where the driver abandoned it.

A 22-year-old man later contacted police and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Greater Manchester Police have asked the drivers of the bus and other vehicles to get in touch so they can "establish the full circumstances leading to her death".
