Five women have been arrested over the death of an elderly man at a care home.

The 86-year-old, who has not been named, died at Lever Edge Care Home on Lever Edge Lane in Bolton on 9 January. An investigation into allegations of neglect is continuing, police said.

The home said it was "working very closely" with police, Bolton Council, and the Care Quality Commission.

The women, aged between 22 and 63, were held on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

They have been bailed until 26 February.

A spokesperson for the home said: "All staff, residents and relatives are being kept fully informed and management support has been put in place at the care home while enquiries are ongoing."

Police appealed for anyone with information about the man's death to come forward.
