Five more murder arrests over Salford burning tent death

A further five people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in a burning tent in Salford.

The body of Daniel Smith, 23, was discovered by firefighters under a railway bridge in Irwell Street at about 01:20 GMT on Wednesday.

Three men, aged 26, 24 and 19, a 28-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy are being questioned by police.

Two men aged 25 and 21, remain in custody after being arrested on Sunday.

A 16-year-old boy, arrested in the early hours of Saturday, and a 24-year-old man arrested on Friday, have both been bailed pending further enquiries, police said.

Mr Smith, who was believed to have been sleeping rough for a number of years, had suffered multiple injuries.
