A robber stole cash from a security van driver after threatening him with a pump-action shotgun, police said.

The man, wearing a black balaclava, stormed into the Asda store on Priesteners Way in Leigh, Greater Manchester, at about 06:17 GMT.

He pointed a shotgun at a Loomis security van driver and grabbed a cash box from him.

Greater Manchester Police said he then drove off in a light-blue Ford Focus along Atherleigh Way towards Atherton.

Detectives have released CCTV images showing a heavily built man wearing a dark tracksuit and a high visibility vest.

Det Insp Martin Reddington said: "This was a particularly daring robbery, considering the man was apparently acting alone.

"Fortunately no-one was injured, but the security guard was obviously left extremely shaken.

"I am hoping that someone may recognise [the suspect's] clothing and come forward with some information."
