Two suspected carjackers were injured, one severely, when their vehicle crashed after a police chase.

The incident began when the driver of a grey Mini was forced out of his car in Trinity Street, Bolton, at 08:10 BST.

The stolen vehicle was pursued by police before it was in collision with a blue Ford Focus and a Parcelforce van on Darwen Road in Astley Bridge.

The 25-year-old driver, his male passenger, 22, and the Ford driver were taken to Salford Royal hospital.

Later, a police community support officer was injured while guarding the crash scene.

Greater Manchester Police said the PCSO was directing traffic when he was hit at about 12:30.

He was treated in the same hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the stolen car suffered serious head injuries, while the Ford driver suffered elbow and knee injuries.

The two men in the stolen car have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.
