A motorcyclist has died after drifting on to the wrong side of the road and colliding with a car, police have said.

David Frampton, 36, from Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, was travelling on the A666 Blackburn Road near Stones Bank Road, Bolton, on Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe he collided with an Audi A3 travelling in the opposite direction on a left-hand bend near the junction.

He was seriously injured and died at the scene.

Paying tribute, his family said he had served in the RAF and was "a courageous, warm-hearted, devoted man".

The two occupants of the Audi were treated for shock, whiplash and minor cuts.

Sgt Malcolm Bell said the accident was not being treated as suspicious and appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.
