A masked burglar broke into a house in Bolton and threatened a mother and baby with a gun.

The raider used a brick to smash through the patio doors of the home on Widcombe Drive, Breightmet, at 00.15 BST.

He was holding a gun and pointed it towards the 30-year-old, who was inside with her 10-month-old baby.

The robber then marched the mother upstairs - with the baby in her arms - and demanded jewellery and money.

He stole a gold watch, the woman's engagement ring and a small amount of cash, before fleeing and jumping over a fence in the back garden.

Det Insp Charlotte Cadden, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This woman was terrified.

"Thankfully neither the woman or her child were injured, but they have been left traumatised."

The offender is described as white, about 6ft, slim, with a Bolton accent.

He was wearing a black balaclava, black jogging bottoms and a black long sleeved top.
