Ex-Oldham school teacher accused of abusing boys

A 70-year-old man has been charged as part of an investigation into child sexual abuse at a primary school.

Anthony Kerr, of Netherlees, Oldham, is charged with 10 counts of sexual assault at St Martin's Primary School in Fitton Hill, relating to two boys.

Oldham magistrates remanded him on bail to Manchester Crown Court on 15 April.

The alleged offences took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The boys were aged between seven and nine at the time, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Con Richard Mills, from the force's Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: "I want to reassure local residents, and more importantly parents of children currently at St Martin's, that these are historical incidents.

"We do not believe there is any reason for current pupils or their families to be unduly concerned."
