A man's body has been found in a house in Bolton, sparking a murder inquiry.

The 40-year-old, who has not been named, was discovered in the living room of the property on Kildare Street, Farnworth, on Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination found the man died as a result of asphyxiation, Greater Manchester Police said.

A GMP spokesman said the man had a daughter, was a roofer and lived alone. He added that there was an "increased police presence" in the area.

Ch Supt Shaun Donnellan said officers went in after finding the house "insecure".

"When they went in to see what had happened, they found the victim on the floor," he added.

"The scene is still being examined in minute detail."
