Salford arson attack: Mother and son escape

A mother and son escaped a fire started when arsonists pushed wheelie bins against their house and set them alight, Greater Manchester Police said.

The home of the 52-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son, on Blantyre Street in Winton, Salford, was targeted at 02:10 GMT.

The fire caused "significant damage" to the kitchen and living room.

Officers said the fire could have proved fatal had the pair not been alerted and appealed for witnesses.
