Roberto Martinez, Dave Whelan and Ian Lenagan honoured in Wigan
The three men most closely associated with Wigan's year of sporting success are to be honoured in the town.
Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan, former manager Roberto Martinez and Wigan Warriors owner Ian Lenagan, will be added to Wigan's 'Walk of Stars'.
The honour marks the football club's FA Cup victory in May and the rugby league side winning the Challenge Cup in August and the Super League in October.
The unveiling is part of a celebration of the borough's sporting year.
In addition to the unveiling of the stars, other groups and individuals who were successful this year will be recognised at Wigan Town Hall - including Leigh Centurions who won the Championship Cup and play in rugby league's second tier.
Dave Whelan, Roberto Martinez, who is now manager of Everton, and Ian Lenagan will be added to a Hollywood-style walk of stars in the town which already includes Wigan rugby star and Wales coach Shaun Edwards, broadcaster and journalist Stuart Maconie and heart specialist Dr Nayyar Naqvi.
Lord Peter Smith, leader of Wigan Council, said: "I've been involved in local government in the area for 30 years and can't recall a more memorable 12 months.
"We couldn't let it pass without a celebration in honour of such remarkable achievements."
The stars will be unveiled at 16:00 GMT on Monday on the piazza outside the Life Centre before the FA Cup, Challenge Cup, Super League trophy and Championship Cup go on display at the Grand Arcade Shopping Centre.
