Two prison officers at HMP Manchester are slashed by inmate
Two prison officers have been slashed by an inmate armed with a razor blade, it has emerged.
The HMP Manchester staff members were taken to hospital following the attack on 22 November and have since been released, the Prison Service said.
Greater Manchester Police were informed about the attack by the prison and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
A Prison Service spokesman it will "press for the most serious charges".
He said: "We do not tolerate violence against our staff. Police have been informed and an investigation is taking place."
"We will press for the most serious charges to be laid against perpetrators," the spokesman added.
HMP Manchester, formerly known as Strangeways, is a high security prison, which houses around 1,200 inmates.
