Rochdale hammer attack: Man denies attempted murder

A man has admitted attacking a woman with a hammer in Greater Manchester but has denied he was trying to kill her.

The 54-year-old victim was found with serious head injuries at Ashbrook Hey Lane, Rochdale, on 13 July.

Stuart Shaw, 25, of Green Meadow, Hurstead, Rochdale, admitted assault by beating at Manchester Crown Court, but pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a trial at the court, which is due to begin on 28 April.
