Greater Manchester Police officer charged with rape

An officer with Greater Manchester Police has been charged with rape, it has emerged.

Stuart Jenkins, 37, of Holcombe Brook, Bury, is accused of raping a 26-year-old old woman while he was off duty more than two years ago.

Mr Jenkins was arrested in May and is due to appear before Preston Crown Court on 31 October. He is suspended pending the result of the court case.

Police released details in May but only confirmed he was an officer this week.

He was part of the Rochdale South neighbourhood team covering Balderstone, Kirkholt, Castleton and Kingsway.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at a house between 24 December 2010 and 1 January 2011.
