Man charged over Wigan door knock stabbing

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a man who was stabbed as he answered a knock at the door.

The 62-year-old was stabbed four times at his home in Diamond Street in Leigh, Wigan, before his attacker grabbed his wallet and ran off on Sunday.

David Dempsey, 42, of Kermishaw Nook, Tyldesley, is also charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 16 September.
