Two charged over Heywood taxi robbery and stabbing

Two men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder over a double stabbing that followed a taxi robbery.

A taxi driver was robbed in Green Lane, Heywood on Friday and two men were stabbed shortly afterwards in a disturbance in a nearby house.

Both men were seriously wounded, Greater Manchester Police said.

Ryan Sandiford, 19, of Green Lane, Heywood and John Hyland, 18, of Hilda Street, Heywood were remanded in custody at Manchester Crown Court.

They are due to enter pleas at a further hearing on 7 October.

A 50-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the incident have been released on police bail.

A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of robbery is yet to be interviewed as he is receiving hospital treatment, police said.
