Stockport Council property deal 'will save £1.m'

Council buildings in Stockport are to be run and managed by a new private company, saving more than £1m off its property budget by 2015-16.

The council's executive said it had awarded the contract to property services company Carillion.

Staff with the council's current property services provider NPS will be transferred to the new firm.

The council said it hoped the new 10-year arrangement would begin by February.

A council statement said the arrangement would save 30% (£1m) off its property budget revenue spending.
