Down's syndrome girl, 12, assaulted in Bolton park

A 12-year-old girl with Down's syndrome is in hospital with a serious head injury after being assaulted by a group of girls in a Bolton park, police said.

At first the girl said she had fallen off a swing at Bobby Heywood's Park on Wednesday evening.

But on Friday her family reported to police that she had been assaulted by four older girls.

She is now in a stable condition in Manchester Children's Hospital, police said.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
