Souvik Pal death: Images of possible witnesses released
Police investigating the death of an Indian student whose body was found in a canal have released CCTV images of a number of possible witnesses.
Manchester Metropolitan University student Souvik Pal, 19, was last seen outside the Warehouse Project in Trafford on New Year's Eve.
He was seen on CCTV footage walking around outside and police believe he might have been seen by other clubbers.
His body was discovered in the Bridgewater Canal on 22 January.
Det Ch Insp Colin Larkin said: "This has been a very difficult time for the family of Souvik Pal, who understandably want to know the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
'Not in trouble'
"This is why we are asking for the people pictured to come forward and speak to the police about what they may remember.
"They are not in any trouble at all, all we want to know is what they saw, even if they don't think they have any information that is significant to this investigation."
One of the people pictured is a young man who was seen walking away from the Warehouse Project with Mr Pal, police said.
The young woman who is pictured was also seen talking to this man.
Mr Pal was last seen at about 23:00 GMT on 31 December and was reported missing by a flatmate the following morning.
A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.
Det Ch Insp Colin Larkin said there was nothing to suggest it was "anything other than a tragic accident" but they wanted to find out when, how and where he entered the canal.
