Man charged after woman hit by car dies in Manchester

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman was fatally struck by a car in Manchester.

Helen Naylor was hit by a Volkswagen Polo on Great Ancoats Street near Central Retail Park on Monday.

The 34-year-old from Merseyside was taken to hospital but later died.

Callum Pearce, 22, of Green Lane, Middleton, is also charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance and causing a death while uninsured.

He appeared before Manchester magistrates where he was remanded in custody to next appear on 3 January 2013.

A 23-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of allowing a vehicle to be used without insurance has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information on the crash, which took place at about 13:20 GMT, is urged to contact police.
