Sahar Daftary inquest: Model 'avoided friend's balcony'
A model who plunged to her death from a block of flats refused to stand on a friend's high-rise balcony months before she died, an inquest heard.
Sahar Daftary, from Brentford, west London, fell from her husband's apartment on the 12th floor of the NV Buildings, Salford, in December 2008.
Diwa Paktani, of Barcelona, told Bolton Coroner's Court she was struck by her friend's fears of her Spanish balcony.
Ms Daftary, 23, was a former winner of the Face of Asia beauty competition.
The court heard the 23-year-old lived with her mother in London after leaving her husband Rashid Jamil two weeks after their wedding ceremony in 2007.
Friends told the inquest she had gone to Salford to retrieve her designer shoes and outfits from the flat where her estranged husband still lived, on the day she died.
Mr Jamil was cleared by police of any involvement in her death.
But the concierge at the flats told the inquest that in the days after Ms Daftary's death he seemed more concerned with his own reputation than with his wife.
Ms Paktani described a get-together at her flat in Spain months before the model died, where Ms Daftary had refused to stand on the balcony.
"She had lost a lot of weight," Ms Paktani said.
The hearing is expected to last until Friday.
