Man held for attempted rape after Manchester attack
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after a woman was assaulted in Manchester city centre.
The 25-year-old woman was near the junction of Postal Street and Newton Street just before 03:50 GMT on Saturday when she was attacked.
Police said a man grabbed her from behind, threw her to the floor and ordered her to undress before passers-by stopped and he ran off.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said he remains in police custody for questioning.
The force said the woman had been assaulted several times as she lay on the floor, but she screamed for help and the passers-by came to her aid.
