Royal Oldham Hospital hit by norovirus outbreak

Visiting times have been cut at a Greater Manchester hospital following an outbreak of the norovirus stomach bug in a ward.

The Medical Assessment Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital has temporarily become a short-stay ward.

Patients and visitors suffering from vomiting, sickness and diarrhoea have been advised to avoid coming to hospital unless it is urgent.

All visiting times have been restricted to 30 minutes.

"We believe we have identified the source [of the infection] and we will be constantly reviewing the situation over the next 48 hours," said a Pennine Acute Trust spokesman.
