Up to 600 people had to be moved from their homes and businesses after a gas pipe burst into fire in Manchester.

It is thought a broken pipe ignited at an industrial site on Upper Helena Street in Bradford, close to the City of Manchester Stadium, at 1300 BST.

A 200m cordon was put in place, roads were closed and buildings evacuated as engineers worked to fix the leak.

The area was declared safe by the fire service at about 1930 BST on Monday and residents were allowed to return.

People had been temporarily housed at a sports centre in Longsight while emergency crews attended the incident.
