Female teacher at a Bolton school on grooming charge

A female teacher at a Bolton school has been charged with attempting to meet a 14-year-old boy after sexual grooming.

Katheryn Marie Roach, 23, of Park View Road, Croxteth, is due to appear before Bolton magistrates on 10 March.

It is alleged that Roach sent "inappropriate" text messages to the teenage boy.

Bolton Council said it took child safety welfare very seriously and her "employment with the school has since terminated."

Police were called to Thornleigh School in Astley Bridge, last April, following a report that a pupil had been the victim of sexual grooming.

A statement by Bolton Council said: "Following the arrest last April, Thornleigh Salesian College acted swiftly to suspend the teacher in question while the investigation took place, and took all the steps required to ensure pupils' safety.

"The teacher's employment with the school has since terminated.

"Bolton Council takes all incidents potentially involving the safety and welfare of children very seriously and ensured that all necessary procedure was instigated as quickly as possible."
