Man arrested over death outside Salvation Army hostel

A man has died after being found collapsed outside a Salvation Army hostel in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to the hostel in High Street, Rochdale at about 2330 GMT on Sunday.

The 67-year-old man had head injuries and was unconscious. He was taken to hospital but died early on Monday, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Pete Jackson said: "We are in the very early stages of our investigation and are still looking into what, if anything, motivated this attack.

"A man has been killed and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

"Detectives are working on the investigation to piece together exactly what happened and if anyone does have information I would ask them to contact us or Crimestoppers."
