Greater Manchester Police sergeant charged with rape

A police officer has been charged with rape and misconduct in public office following an investigation managed by the police watchdog.

Sgt Peter Jee, 36, has been charged in relation to the reported rape of a woman at a house in Rochdale in August 2010.

He was bailed by Salford Magistrates' Court to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 17 February.

Sgt Jee resigned from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) on 14 January.

The officer has been charged following an investigation by the GMP's Professional Standards Branch, managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

An IPCC spokesman said the offence was alleged to have taken place while the uniformed officer was on duty dealing with a "domestic issue".
