CCTV issued in Manchester alley rapist search

CCTV footage of a man suspected of raping a woman in a Manchester city centre alleyway has been released.

The 20-year-old was attacked in Library Walk, which runs between Manchester Town Hall and Central Library in the early hours of 31 October.

CCTV footage examined by officers shows a man near the scene of the attack minutes earlier.

He is white, aged between 20 and 30, with short brown hair and was wearing a light top and jeans.

The footage also showed the man attacking or attempting to attack another woman at about 0200 GMT.

Caution urged

Officers have appealed for the woman to contact them.

Det Insp Mark Hudson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "I'd urge people to take a good look at the CCTV footage we've released and ask yourself if you know who that man is. It is very important that we speak to him.

"I'd also like to appeal to anybody who was out in the early hours who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area and, of course, if another woman was attacked then I'd like her to come forward too.

"It is the party season and lots of people will be out and about in the city centre, so I don't want to cause any unnecessary alarm, however I'd like people to be safety-conscious, by doing simple things such as sticking to well-lit areas and walking in groups."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Greater Manchester Police or Crimestoppers.
