Car driver critically ill after Stockport bus crash

A 28-year-old man is critically ill after being cut free by firefighters from his car which collided with a double decker bus in Stockport.

The bus then hit three parked cars before coming to rest at the side of a house, police said.

The car driver, who suffered chest and pelvic injuries, was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, where the bus driver was also taken as a precaution.

Two passengers were also treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Up to 20 passengers are believed to have been on the bus in Bents Lane, Bredbury when the crash happened just after 0600 GMT.
