A man who admitted trying to rape an 89-year-old woman in her own home has been jailed for 14 years.
Stefan Motoaca Dumitru, 25, of no fixed address, admitted two counts of attempted rape and one of burglary at a hearing this month.
Dumitru, who was jailed at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, attacked the woman in her home in Levenshulme, Manchester in April.
He was caught when a DNA sample was checked against the national database.
The court heard that Dumitru broke into the woman's house on 18 April.
He punched the woman, who was asleep in bed, trying to rape her twice before running out of the house.
Det Ch Insp Pete Marsh from GMP's Major Incident Team said: "The victim in this case has been incredibly strong and brave and I hope today's sentence helps her put this horrendous ordeal behind her.
"This attack understandably appalled the whole community who were really supportive of the police investigation to find Dumitru."
