A 99-year-old woman has been robbed by a man who called at her Manchester home pretending to be a gardener.

The elderly victim, who is hard of hearing, let him into her property, in Myerscroft Close, New Moston, after he rang through on the intercom on Friday.

Once inside he stole cash from the pensioner before walking off towards Nuthurst Road.

Pc Neil Simmonds described him as a "pathetic" thief, adding that his actions were "reprehensible".

He is described as white, in his 40s, 5ft 4in tall, of slim build with brown messy hair, a round face and pale complexion.

Pc Simmonds said: "The victim is almost 100 years old and instead of being treated with the respect she deserves this offender has taken advantage of her for the sake of a bit of cash and I find his actions reprehensible."
