A man has died after he suffered a serious wound in a fight in a Manchester city centre nightclub.

Police were called to the Park Nite Club in Grosvenor Street just before 0300 BST.

A 32-year-old man had already been taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

A murder investigation has begun. Det Ch Insp Jon Chadwick said there were a number of witnesses to the fight and appealed for information.

The nature of the man's injuries has not yet been released.

Mr Chadwick added: "I understand the community will be concerned about what has happened but we believe this was an isolated incident.

"We have a number of lines of inquiry to follow up and we are confident we will find the person responsible."
