Poster error offers 'indoor bowels' in Salford

A billboard poster in Salford will be ripped down after a spelling mistake invited bowls enthusiasts for a game of "indoor bowels".

Council leader John Merry said he would investigate the blunder, which appeared on a poster advertising a sports facility in Salford Quays.

Salford Community Leisure said its signage company had used an old design which contained the error.

The printing firm fully accepted responsibility, the organisation added.

The poster had only been put up a few hours before the mistake was noticed by a member of the public. It will be now be replaced by a new sign with the correct description of "indoor bowls".

Salford Community Leisure is an independent branch of Salford City Council, which manages the provision of sport and leisure services and facilities in the city.

The sports facility being advertised with the phrase "discover what's inside", is Fit City Ordsall, a gym near the Lowry Centre and the Lowry Outlet Shopping Mall.
