Police investigating a botched robbery in which a Pc was seriously injured are appealing for information, as the gang has still not been caught a year later.

Officers were called to Partington Leisure Centre in Greater Manchester on 19 October 2009. Three men were trying to steal cash from a security van.

As the men tried to flee the centre in a black BMW, the car was driven at Pc Gary Marshall, going over his body.

He suffered serious injuries and has not been able to return to work.

Pc Marshall's car was parked to try to stop the gang driving away, but as he got out of the vehicle the robbers got into the BMW and drove at the car.

The police car was knocked back 40 ft (12m) and Pc Marshall fell to the floor. The gang then drove over him.

The BMW was seen driving along Warburton Lane soon afterwards, at about 1430 BST.

It was found alight in Carr Green Lane, Warburton.

Police believe the gang then got into a blue Audi S5. It was seen on Dunham Road, then Paddock Lane, before heading for the M56 motorway.

Det Insp Chris Wood, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "The men involved in this robbery stopped at nothing to get away and clearly had no cares as to whether they killed or injured as they did so.

"The officer, who was simply doing his job, was left seriously injured and is still recovering a whole year on.

"The offenders used two very high-powered cars and there is a chance they may have been in the area in the days leading up to the armed robbery."

He urged anyone with information to contact police.
