High winds bring down large tree in Stockport
A 15m (50ft) tree damaged a car and blocked a road during a night of strong winds in Greater Manchester.
The Mini Cooper was in the path of the tree which fell across Old Hall Road in Gatley, Stockport, overnight.
As well as denting the car, branches from the tree also caused some damage to the buildings opposite.
The road was closed to pedestrians and traffic while Stockport Council contractors cleared the debris, but has since reopened.
Despite the stormy conditions, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said there were no reports of other weather-related incidents.
A spokesman for Solutions SK, Stockport Council's wholly owned logistics company, said engineers were on the scene shortly after 0700 BST.
"The weather over night was blustery and in keeping with conditions expected at this time of year," he said.
"We are not aware of anyone being injured but damage has been caused to buildings opposite and to one stationary and unoccupied vehicle.
"The tree was not on public land and we are currently checking who owns the land."
"We have checked the adjacent trees and they appear to be fine."
