A man has been jailed for nine years for raping an eight-year-old boy in Greater Manchester.

Charles Williams, 51, of no fixed address, denied raping a child aged under 13, but was found guilty after a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Williams, who carried out the offence between 2007 and 2009 in Sale, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

The victim came forward in March 2009.

Det Con Nicola Graham, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Williams clearly has no remorse for what he has done and showed this by not admitting to his crimes.

"A subsequent trial found him guilty and hopefully this will go some way to giving closure to the boy and his family."
