Robbers hit Timperley shop worker with metal bar

Armed robbers hit a member of staff on the head with a metal bar during a raid at a newsagent in Greater Manchester.

The two masked men, also armed with a gun, burst into the shop on Riddings Road in Timperley just before 2150 BST on Sunday.

One of the men threatened a member of staff with the gun and the other hit a second shop worker with the metal bar.

They took cash and cigarettes before trying to smash the CCTV cameras with the metal bar and running off.

The man with the gun is white, about 6ft 2in, of medium build and in his mid 20s.

He was wearing dark clothes, a hooded top and had his face covered with a scarf.

The man with the metal bar is about 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and in his mid 20s.

He was also wearing dark clothes and a hat and had his face covered by a scarf.

The victim who was hit on the head with the metal bar was taken to hospital but has since been released.

Det Con Jack Chadwick said: "The injuries to the victim could have been more serious given the recklessness of the offenders.

"We would urge any witnesses who may have been walking past the newsagent to call us if they saw anything that could help this investigation."
