Boy, 12, offered cash to have sex by man in Chorlton

A 12-year-old boy was offered a substantial amount of money to partake in sexual activity by a man in a street in south Manchester.

The young victim was approached as he walked along Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton just before 1500 BST on Tuesday.

He ran off to a nearby McDonald's and reported the incident.

Police have warned young people to be extra vigilant, walk in groups and avoid shortcuts.

The man, who was aged between 30 and 40, initially drove up alongside the young boy and asked for directions to Didsbury.

He was driving a silver Ford or Vauxhall car and had a large amount of cash in his hand.

'Victim scared'

A short time later, the victim saw the man standing on the pavement and this time he propositioned him, offering him cash for sex.

The man is described as having a chubby build with short brown hair which was possibly going grey, police said.

Pc Marcus Holmes said: "I would like to hear from anyone that may recognise the description of that man, his car, or who was in the area on that afternoon.

"It is an incident which has left this young victim feeling quite scared, but I do not want to cause any undue concern in the community.

"I would like to reassure parents this is being treated as an isolated incident.

"However, we would ask that young people follow a few basic safety tips such as walking in groups and avoiding shortcuts."
