Cardiologist Sumit Basu charged with sexual assaults

A consultant cardiologist has been charged with a series of sex assaults.

Dr Sumit Basu, 58 of Lewisham, south-east London, is charged with one count of sexual assault by penetration and four counts of sexual assault by touching.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between November 2013 and June 2015. He has been released on bail.

At the time, Dr Basu was working as a consultant for the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

He is due to attend Bromley Magistrates' Court on 17 January.
