An 11-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were injured following a shotgun incident in north east London.

Police were called to Loxford Lane in Redbridge at around at 16:30 BST on Monday.

The boy, who was with his parents, was struck in the cheek by a stray shotgun pellet.

The man is in hospital in a critical condition. The police said the victims are not known to each other.

Neither the child, who has since had the pellet removed, nor his parents are believed to have been the intended victims of the attack.

There have been no arrests and police have no description of any suspects at present.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moring said: "This shooting has left a man in a critical condition and endangered an innocent child.

"We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact police immediately. Your call will be treated in complete confidence."
