A man has been killed in what police suspect to be a "violent assault" in east London.

A murder investigation has been launched after Mehmet Değerli, 49, from Stoke Newington, was found dead in a residential car park.

The Met Police were called to reports of a man collapsed at the scene, off Sandringham Road in Dalston, early on Wednesday morning.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police say they need the public's help to "piece together" what happened.

Det Ch Insp Rob Pack said: "At this stage we believe Mr Derğerli to have been the victim of a violent assault.

"The victim's car was parked in Sandringham Road and suffered some damage."
